Former Flying Bison Coach to Debut with the Miami Marlins

Flying Bison coach Harry Wilonsky

Another Bison has made it out of the pasture! Harry Wilonsky, 2024 bullpen coach for the Abilene Flying Bison, has recently signed with the Miami Marlins. Wilonsky will debut at the start of the 2026 season as bullpen catcher for the south Florida team.

In addition to joining the Flying Bison for our inaugural season, Wilonsky spent the last few seasons being the Bullpen Catcher for Texas Longhorns baseball. His experience with the esteemed baseball program undoubtedly assisted him in not only helping lead the Flying Bison to a regular season championship, but also in landing the position with the two-time World Series champions.

On Wilonsky’s signing, President + General Manager, John Stark, had this to say:

“I’m incredibly proud of Harry and what he’s been able to accomplish in his baseball career. To go from the University of Texas to the Miami Marlins organization is running from one big league to another. We here at the Flying Bison are honored to have been part of his baseball journey and we look forward to seeing him in a Miami Marlins uniform for many years to come.”

John Stark presents Harry Wilonsky with his 2024 regular season championship ring.

Though he grew up catching, Wilonsky transitioned to the outfield for his first three years, playing all positions for coach Ashley Moore at Hillcrest High School. He was named an All-District 1st Team Outfielder his sophomore year. In his senior year, Harry went behind the plate for his senior year, again being named a member of the All-District 1st team.

Although he’s the first Flying Bison alumni to join an official MLB roster, he’s not the first to head up to the big leagues. Back in July the AFB announced that Braydon Risley, LHP for the 2025 Bison team, was drafted by the San Francisco Giants.

The Flying Bison have been fortunate to see some incredible players and staff pass through our doors over the past two seasons. We’re so proud that Wilonsky donned the Flying Bison emblem and look forward to staying up to date with him (and Risley, of course) throughout his career.
