Inaugural Flying Bison Manager Joins the Marlins Organization

Flying Bison manager

The Abilene Flying Bison are pleased to announce that our inaugural manager, Cam Vega, is heading to the Miami Marlins organization. He joins several other former Flying Bison who made professional moves after spending time on the team.

Cam Vega Joins the Marlins Organization

Cam announced Friday that he’s signed on with the Miami Marlins organization as the Catching/Asst. Hitting Coach of their double-A affiliate team, the Pensacola Blue Wahoos. He isn’t the first Bison to join the Marlins organization; In November 2025, it was announced that Harry Wilonsky, 2024 bullpen coach for the Flying Bison, signed as the bullpen catcher for the Marlins 2026 season.

Under Cam Vega’s management, the 2024 Flying Bison team had a 46-22 record, leading to a regular season championship. His performance during the season also snagged him the league’s Manager of the Year title.

Prior to becoming a coach with the Blue Wahoos, Cam was an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for Cisco College. In 4 seasons with the Cisco Wranglers, the team won 138 games. He attended Texas Tech University and was part of the Red Raider baseball team from 2018-2020, making two trips to the College World Series as well as winning a Big 12 Championship.

The AFB organization had this to say about Cam’s move: “Cam, we are so proud of you and we’re honored to have been a small part of your baseball journey. Thank you for everything you’d done for the Flying Bison. We wish you all the best and can’t wait to see what you do in the future.”

With so much experience under his belt at such a young age, it’s no surprise that Cam was chosen by the Marlins to coach the 2022 Southern League title winners. We look forward to staying up to date with him throughout his career and know he’s destined for success.

The Blue Wahoos 2026 season kicks off on April 3rd with a 3-game set against the Montgomery Biscuits.
